PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve azimuthal resolution in the synthesization of ultrasonic signals from a plurality of transmitting/receiving channels by a method wherein a specified delay value is applied to the transmitting/receiving channels to converge ultrasonic beams whereas the delay value is determined based on sound velocities corresponding to a plurality of media. SOLUTION: This ultrasonic diagnostic apparatus receivers a signal received from a probe 1 with a transmitting/receiving circuit 2 and gives the signal a specified delay value in a delay circuit 3 and a phasing addition to the signal in an addition circuit 3. Thereafter, the signal is detected by a detection circuit 5. The received signal on each scan line is converted to a luminance distribution with a digital scan converter 6 and shown on a display device 7 as M mode image and B mode image. In this case, an operating element 80 is manipulated correspondingly to the thickness of each fat layer in vivo to specify the thickness of the fat layer selectively and, in a control circuit 8, the delay value to be applied to the transmitting/receiving channels 1a is calculated to set a proper delay value on the delay circuit 3, thereby improving azimuthal resolution. |
