A heating roller for a fixing unit of an electrophotographic apparatus is coated on its inner surface with a far infrared radiation absorbing material (10) of a wavelength of 3-1000 microns to reduce temperature fluctuations along the heating roller, the roller being heated by halogen lamp 12 inside the roller and temperature being controlled by thermistor 13. Thermostat 14 prevents the roller from overheating and pressure roller 15 applies pressure to fix the toner image 16.
