The present invention relates to an ignition system for an internal combustion engine capable of operating with a liquid fuel and on gas, of the type including means for triggering the moment of ignition on the basis firstly of the rotational speed of the engine, secondly of the depression in the gas intake pipe, and thirdly of an adjustable initial value, characterised in that the ignition system includes a depression reservoir (7) connected on the one hand to the gas inlet pipe and on the other hand to a three-way valve (5), the said three-way valve (5), in the position for operating on petrol, giving communication between the depression sensor and the gas inlet pipe and closing the communication between the depression reservoir (7) and the depression sensor, the said valve when in the position for operating on gas giving the communication between the depression sensor and the depression reservoir (7) and closing the communication between the gas inlet pipe and the depression sensor. <IMAGE>
