In order to improve the stability and efficiency of a high-temperature solid-electrolyte fuel cell of planar design, the invention proposes that the effective area of the contact surface between the electrolyte layer (E) and electrode layer (AN, KA) is increased. This is done by suitable treatment of the electrolyte-layer surface or by introducing a porous and/or rough intermediate layer (ZS, ZS<1>).
