A device and method for forming a coating by pyrolysis A device is described for the formation, by pyrolysis, of a coating of metal or metal compound on one face of a moving hot glass substrate by bringing the face into contact with a gaseous reagent. The device comprises support means (20) for conveying the substrate (16) through a coating chamber (14). At least one reagent gas inlet in the form of a slot (12) opening directly into the coating chamber and extending transverse to the path of the substrate is provided for supplying and distributing reagent gas to the coating chamber. At least one exhaust gas outlet (18) is provided for discharging exhaust gas from the coatingchamber. The invention is characterised by the provision of movable shield means (40) positioned in the coating chamber adjacent the roof (38) thereof, to reduce the formation of deposits on the coating chamber roof.
