The socket has a casing (4) which is open at the top, receiving an intermediate frame (7) supporting one or more socket inserts and fitted with a cover (5) incorporating a water-tight cable lead device. The latter is dome shaped for providing a hand grip and can be opened at the top. Pref. the cover has two interfitting, relatively sealed plates (52) with upper projecting edges (511, 521).
