Water enters the gulley by a channel (3) into a circular chamber (2). The kinetic energy of the water is used to rotate a spindle (12) to which an arm (25) is mounted at the top. Projecting upwards from the arm are prongs which mesh into the spaces of a concentric grid (20) mounted on top of the gulley. The first rain water is directed over a sill (9) along with floating material, below the height of grid, as the water level climbs, water passes through the grid to an outlet channel (6).
