The clutch has inner- and outer discs (7,8) linking the two parts of the drive. The outer discs are linked by attached sealing rings, as are the inner rings, to form an enclosed space for the viscous fluid which generates the variable grip. The two outer discs (32) of the inner array are thicker and are braced between the piston and the housing by roller bearings (33). The two outer discs of the outer array are L-shaped to provide a sealing surface for sliding seals (34) fitted to the outer discs of the inner array. The sealing rings between the discs are attached rigidly and are reinforced by outer bands to limit extension. ADVANTAGE - Improved seals to contain viscous fluid, less risk of leaks between operating fluid and viscous fluid.
