PURPOSE:To make it possible to prolong a video recording possible time by performing an intra-field encoding processing for odd numbered field data or performing a processing whose encoding efficiency rate is higher for even numbered field picture data. CONSTITUTION:This system is provided with a picture video recording circuit 1, a picture reproducing circuit 2 and a control circuit 3. When a video signal to be a video recording object is supplied, for an odd numbered field picture composing one-frame, the picture is compressed by an intra-field encoding system and is recorded on a molybdenum type laser disk (MO-LD) 21 capable of writing based on a control signal from the control circuit 3. For an even numbered field picture composing the frame, the picture is compressed by an inter-field prediction encoding system for which a motion compensation for the odd numbered field pictures is used and is recorded on the MO-LD4. At the time of reproducing the pictures, by reproducing the odd numbered field pictures and even numbered field pictures recorded on the MO-LD4 by performing the inverse processing, video signals are formed. |
