PURPOSE:To surely read out an embossing image by providing the embossing image read with the 1st lighting optical system for picking up the erected reflected image of the surface of a recording medium and the 2nd lighting optical system for picking up a dispersed reflected image and allowing an image sensor to extract the differential component between two picked-up results based upon respective illuminating light as an embossing image. CONSTITUTION:The 1st light optical system 1 radiates illuminating light to the recording medium 3 at a fixed incident angle from an oblique direction and the 2nd lighting optical system 2 radiates illuminating light to the medium 3 at an angle different from that of the system 1. On the other hand, the image sensor 4 picks up the image of the medium 3 at approximately the same angle as the incident light of the system 1 from the opposite direction to the incident direction of the system 1. An embossing image extracting means switches the 1st and 2nd lighting optical systems 1, 2, finds out the differential component of the picked-up results based upon respective illuminating light and extracts the differential component as an embossing image. |
