Charging of water with oxygen and chemicals without - disturbance of the natural stratification

The priming effect of allowing water to fall over the rim of a shaft is used to introduce the oxygen and other materials to the water. The oxygen-impoverished water to be treated is raised by pump to a tank arranged around the rim of a shaft which extends downwards to the layer from which the water is drawn. Aeration occurs as the water descends the shaft and the raising of the water level causes a downward flow of oxygenated water to the shaft outlets. Because of the greater diameter of the shafts compared with that of the withdrawal tube, the water flows out smoothly without disturbing the existing layers. Dosing with chemicals may be carried out using a container connected to the shaft by a pipe.
