The mechanism exposes the reinforcing bars in concrete piles(2), having a box-section supporting frame(3) with central passage(4) for the pile, and ram-operated breaking tools(5,6) at intervals round the periphery. Each tool consists of a rocking chisel with one or more cutting edges(7,8) at one end, coupled to the ram at the other one(9). Its pivot axis(10) on the frame is at right angles to the longitudinal axis(11) of the latter.
