PURPOSE:To set a preload to an optimum value by measuring the correlation characteristic between the preload and the work deformation quantity for each work manufactured by each metal mold and setting the aimed value of the interference for applying the preload by using the correlation characteristic and setting the thickness of a shim on the basis of the aimed value. CONSTITUTION:The correlation characteristic between a preload and the elastic deformation quantity and the correlation characteristic between the elastic deformation quantity and the necessary revolution torque are measured for each sample of a transmission case 1 manufactured in each metal mold by using three pairs of measuring devices, and the aimed value of the interference for applying a preload in assembling a transmission TM is set. Therefore, even if rigidity is different in each case manufactured by each metal mold, the rigidity is reflected onto the interference. On the basis of the aimed value of the interference, the thickness of a shim 14 is interposed between the case 1 and the outer case 7c of a bearing 7 is set. Therefore, the thickness of the shim 14 for applying a prescribed preload is set to an optimum value, and the preload can be correctly controlled.
