To detect the fall of a control rod in a nuclear reactor, a position sensor of the type with a transformer comprises several, preferably three, superposed auxiliary secondary windings 24 arranged in the lower part of the sensor. Each auxiliary secondary winding 24 is connected to an independent processing set 26 and, in the event of failure in the power supply 20 to the primary winding 18, one of the auxiliary secondary windings 24 is supplied with power by its processing set 26.
