PURPOSE:To display a fine-texture and colorful image, by photographing a slide image with a television camera as a bit of picture information, and reproducing it on a display. CONSTITUTION:A bit of character information and the bit of picture information is formed in a pair, and a code is attached on the pair, and by designating the code with a keyboard 38 attached on a computer, the bit of character information is called out from a character information memory device to a superimposer 43 via the computer 37 as a video signal. Simultaneously, a driving device 25 is operated by a signal from the computer 37, and a required slide 18 arrives at a photographing position. When the slide 18 arrives at the photographing position, the television camera 31 photographs the image of the slide 18, and the video signal representing the image is outputted to the superimposer 43. At the superimposer 43, both video signals are synthesized, and a character and the image are reproduced at a display device 46 based on the synthesized video signal. In such a way, it is possible to retrieve a required image automatically, and to display the image finely and in colorfulness, and to easily change or add the image.
