PURPOSE:To always attain prescribed color reproduction by reading a standard color original whose color coordinate is known in advance and deciding the color conversion coefficient so that the output of the color conversion means reaches a prescribed value. CONSTITUTION:A standard color original 25 is set on an original platen glass 2, an optical system unit 7 is moved in the direction of the arrow and the original is being scanned, then an electric signal from a CCD 6 is read. Then the color original is set to decide the color conversion coefficients of a color conversion circuit 15 so that the Y'', N'', C'', BK'' signals of a color conversion circuit 15 reach objective values. Thus, the user adjusts the color correcting characteristic automatically by having only the standard color original read.
