PURPOSE:To make a casting of an Al-Si alloy free from pinholes and to surely improve the toughness and elongation when Sr is added to the Al-Si alloy to improve the toughness and elongation, by vacuum-degassing an Sr added molten Al-Si alloy. CONSTITUTION:In order to improve the toughness, especially the elongation of a cast Al-Si alloy, 300ppm Sr is added to a molten Al-Si alloy in the form of a mother alloy such as an Al-10%Sr alloy. The Sr added molten Al-Si alloy is treated in a vacuum degassing apparatus to release and remove gas absorbed from the atmosphere during the addition of Sr. A casting of the resulting Al-Si alloy is made free from pinholes and the toughness, especially the elongation is improved.
