PURPOSE:To make it possible to secure easily a certain area for measuring foreign matter in a quenched fine wire by winding the fine wire having a great length around a steel plate by multiple turns with as small spacings as possible, fixing by applying adhesive, and the polishing. CONSTITUTION:As a sample of measuring foreign matter in a fine wire, first a quenched fine wire 1 having a great length is wound around a steel plate 2 which is 10mm wide, 6mm thick and 20mm long in about 30 turns with as small spacings as possible and adhesive is applied over them to fix them. The quenched fine wire 1 glued on an end surface of the steel plate 2 is polished with emery of No.1200 to an extent not to exceed the radius of the fine wire and not to produce burrs, and then finish-polished with diamond paste of grain size of 2.5mu. Thus, unlike conventional method which required 15 mounts for measuring foreign matter in the fine wire, only one mount suffices and the polishing is also performed easily.
