PURPOSE:To obtain a character candidate in question by providing a final stroke judging section for judging whether an XY value of a final stroke is below a fixed value or not and removing the final stroke to extract the character again. CONSTITUTION:When a character described by a character recognizing section 10 is identified, it is outputted as a recognition result. However, when the character 'sen'' with ''' at a last position nis described, since a candidate is not obtained, a largeness and smallness judgement of a final stroke is performed by a final stroke judging section 12. Since the final stroke of the character 'sen'' is usually considered to be an XY value or below a fixed value (for example, 3mm), the final stroke is judged to be 'small' and the character recognition is done by using an information of a part pattern register 9 again in a form removing the final stroke. The character recognizing section 10 carries oput a character recognizing processing in accordance with the contents of the register set by the final stroke judging section.
