PURPOSE:To manufacture golden facing each having a fine color tone, a fine appearance, superior surface hardness and corrosion resistance by forming a metallic film on each film of titanium nitride, titanium carbonitride or the like and a gold or gold alloy film on the metallic film and by carrying out thermal diffusion. CONSTITUTION:A film of titanium nitride, titanium carbonitride, tantalum nitride, tantalum carbide, zirconium nitride or hafnium nitride is formed on each metallic or heat resistant substrate. A film of a metal such as Ni, Cr, Cu, Pd or Co is formed on the compound film, and a gold or gold alloy film is formed on the metallic film as a surface layer by a wet plating method. The substrate is then heat treated to carry out thermal diffusion.
