In a device for removing sealing caps on bottles, comprising a substantially circular arc-shaped working region having a slideway, and in the centre having a vertical working shaft equipped with star-shaped transporting and guiding means and provided with unscrewing devices arranged overhead, and additionally having a supplying and a discharging conveyor, it is proposed that a dividing worm which is synchronised with the working shaft be situated in the intake region, and also a detection unit for defective bottles and a sorting unit cooperating with the latter and functionally synchronised with the dividing worm, and that the working shaft has, for detecting and transporting the bottles, in the region of the bottle bodies, a centring star and, located above this, a controllable neck centring star which cooperate during the holding and transporting of the bottles.
