U=Shaped plug-in fuse punched from metal tape - has thin spine and knife-contact arms

The fuse has a current-carrying part held in an insulating casing and with knife contacts projecting from the casing. A fusible conductor joins the two knife contacts. Each current-carrying part is punched from metal tape. A thinner tape (1) is attached to this main tape (2) along the latter edge to form a preferred region of melting. Alternatively, the preferred region may be formed by machining away or pressing part of the edge of the main tape to make a step. Each part is U-shaped with the thin region forming its spine and the knife contact (5,6) its arms.
