PURPOSE:To manufacture a desulfurizing agent for molten iron with superior performance by adding a specified additive to molten carbide, melting the additive, and using the resulting carbide with a low m.p. as it is or after mixing with other material. CONSTITUTION:Molten carbide discharged from an electric furnace is charged into a vessel such as a ladle by >=1/4 of the volume of the vessel. While adding CaO, MgO, CaF2, MgF2, CaCl2, MgCl2, calcined dolomite, calcium silicate, calcium aluminate, Mg or Fe-Ni refining slag or converter slag having <=3mm. grain size as an additive, molten carbide is charged by 3/4 of the volume of the vessel so that 5-40wt% said additive is contained, and the additive is melted to prepare carbide with a low m.p. such as 1,550-1,950 deg.C. Powder of this carbide is used as a desulfurizing agent for molten iron with superior desulfurizing performance as it is or after mixing with powder of hydroxide or carbonate of Ca or Mg so that >=40% carbide powder is contained. |
