PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound useful as a raw material for preparing a perfume, medicine or a raw material for preparing the same in high yield easily with the retained stereochemistry, by dehydrogenating and oxidizing an unsaturated alcohol in an oxygen supplying substance in the presence of a ruthenium catalyst. CONSTITUTION:An unsaturated alcohol of formulaI(R<1>, R<2>, R<3> and R<4> are H, alkyl, alkenyl or aryl) is dehydrogenated and oxidized in an oxygen supplying substance preferably in a solvent in the presence of a ruthenium catalyst at room temperature -80 deg.C to give the aimed compound of formula II easily. Pulenol, geraniol, nerol, retional or carveol may be used as the compound of formulaI. Tristriphenylphosphineruthenium dichloride or tristriphenylphosphineruthenium hydrido acetate may be used as the ruthenium catalyst. The presence of a basic substance in the reaction preferably improves the selectivity of the reaction. |
