<p>To form the channel (6) in the shaft (2) of the sewing machine needle above the eye (4), a displaced zone is created parallel to the needle axis (7) by two angled sections (9,10), while retaining the cross section dimensions of the needle. The displaced section (8) of the needle shaft (2) is moved from the needle line by an amt. corresp. to 30-60% of the needle thickness, while the angled sections (9,10) defining the displaced zone run at an angle of less than 30 deg. to the needle axis (7). The angled section (9) between the displaced zone (8) and the needle eye (4) starts at the upper end of the eye (4). The needle has a U-shaped cross section along its shaft (2) as far as the eye (4), with approx. parallel side walls at the eye (4) end, or it can have a V-shaped cross section with the side walls lightly angled together at the eye (4). The side walls of the eye (4) are wider than the shaft (2) thickness. The thread groove (5) depth increases before opening into the eye (4). The design gives greater depth where the thread groove enters the eye, giving the thread full protection, with increased free space between the thread and the needle, without loss of needle stability.</p> |
