The arm rests which can be fully upholstered prior to assembly are fitted to the couch by inserting the inner ends of rod filaments through recesses provided in the longitudinal and intermediate beams of the arm rest frame. The positive connection between the rods and the beams ensures a good transfer of force to prevent breaking. Once the rod is fitted the support plate need only be connected to the longitudinal beam by screws which are easily accessible from outside. This support plate forms one arm of a right-angled rod fitment attached to the couch frame, the other arm which extends at right angles to the longitudinal centre plane of the rod being formed by the holder plate.
