PURPOSE:To prevent a decrease of gas pressure in a metal vapor discharge lamp, by introducing gas for lowering surge voltage in an outer tube, discharging the gas in the outer tube and then exhausting the gas again sealing the above described gas in the outer tube. CONSTITUTION:After work of assembly for a luminous tube 1, bimetal 4, filament 5 and the like in an outer tube 7, vacuumizing exhaust work is performed in an outer tube exhaust process, then sealing gas is introduced into the outer tube 7 to discharge the gas in the inside by a Tesla coil from the outside of the outer tube, and then said gas is exhausted to again seal the sealing gas in the outer tube 7 at prescribed pressure. The sealing gas, which is for lowering surge voltage generated when the bimetal is operated, is introduced into the outer tube 7 and electric discharge, then a generated ion is allowed to hit glass surfaces, thus the subsequently sealed gas is prevented from being absorbed and stored in the glass surfaces of the outer tube. |
