<p>1302165 Picking up fruit B R L CACQUEVAL 4 Nov 1970 [4 Nov 1969] 52400/70 Heading A1F [Also in Division B2] An apparatus Fig. 1, for separating heavy objects 23 from lighter or bulkier objects 24, e.g. fruit from leaves or other extraneous objects, comprises a wall on which the objects to be separated are displaced by gravity or inertia, at least one comb 12 having relatively flexible teeth and being located, at least intermittently, in the path of the objects in such a way that the relatively heavy objects 23 pass through the comb, by pushing back its teeth or by moving them apart, and continue their movement along the wall and that the lighter or bulkier objects 24 are stopped by the comb and means for collecting the objects which have passed through the comb and/or those which have been stopped by the latter. Fig. 1 shows a machine for gathering fruit 23 from the ground. A number of combs 12, having teeth made of plastics or steel, are mounted within a structure 1 on a shaft 11 above a shaft 8 on which is fixed a drum 9 having mounted pick-up elements 10 which may be in the form of spring-steel teeth, rubber fingers or a brush. A roller 17 is mounted in front of the drum 9 between arms 15 articulated at 16 on the structure 1 and comprises a spindle 17 on which flexible rings 18 are loosely engaged. The structure 1 is mounted on wheels 3 carried by a shaft 2 and has two handles 4 fixed to its sides. A motor (not shown) drives a pulley secured on the shaft 8 which in turn drives the shafts 2, 11 in opposite direction via belts or chains 21, 22. When the machine is moved along the ground to gather fruit 23, the latter lifts the rings 18, passes underneath them, is projected upwards by the pick-up drum 9 along the front wall of the structure 1, encounters the combs 12 whose teeth move aside, and falls on to an inclined plane 13 which conducts it to a collecting basket 7. The leaves 24 picked up at the same time as the fruit are stopped by the combs 12 and fall back to the ground.</p> |
