At the outlet end of a feed pipe rking with a rotor of a centrifugal pump for delivering finely divided solid matter into a vessel contg. a gas' a spreader element is positioned. During operation this distributes the finely divided material supplied, on to the rotor in a pattern which is near enough rotationally symmetrical. Pref. the spreader is fixed to the rotor. The spreader is symmetrical to its axis' and its cross-section increases uniformly from its top to its foot. It may be conical in shape; the generating line of the cone being a curve' the convex side of which faces the centreline. Used for injecting powder and granular material' as well as catalysts and reagents into a reaction chamber. Esp. for injecting powdered coal into a gasifying plant. Irregular wear of the pressure vessel wall is prevented.
