Jet fuel is produces by the 2-stage hydrogenation of a hydrocarbon feed boiling in the range 135 degrees-550 degrees F and substantially free from S (pref. 5 ppm), by passing the feed concurrently with H2 through the 1st stage at 250-575 degrees C and elevated pressure over a catalyst comprising a Pt group metal, and passing a partially hydrogenated liquid hydrocarbon effluent from the 1st stage through the 2nd stage in countercurrent to H2 over a Ni catalyst, the 2nd stage being operated at 200-500 degrees F and elevated pressure. The feed is suitably a straight run kerosene and the 1st stage catalyst is pref. Pt or Pd.
|
