A pusher plate (6) is laterally slidable or swivelable into lateral contact with a moving container (1). At right angles to the plate and pointing away from the conveyor, is a cross-arm (7) which prevents the immediately following container (2) from moving past the pusher. The pusher plate with stop arm (7) may be carried on a swivel arm (9) on a pivot (10) at right angles to the plane of the conveyor.
