Identical semi-trailer units 10 may be close coupled by hook and socket couplings at 12 and 14 and by a central eye and socket coupling and when the engaged couplings are locked to prevent disengagement the intermediate axle 20 is freed to allow it to radiate. Each axle 20 carries air suspension units the upper ends of which bear on an arcuate track whose centre corresponds with the ball-joint forming the apex of an A-frame extending forwardly from and secured to the axle 20. When freed the axle can move angularly about the centre of the ball joint and when used as a single semitrailer the A-frame and axle are locked by a pin engaging cam surfaces on the arcuate track. |
