DISPLAY DEVICE AND ITS DESIGNING METHOD

A liquid crystal display device has a plurality of line-like fluorescent lamps disposed in parallel with each other on a back side of a display panel. In order to make the number of the disposed fluorescent lamps less than in the case that a disposing interval of the fluorescent lamps is consistent with a disposing interval of the fluorescent lamps at a central portion of the display area, the disposing interval of the fluorescent lamps at edge portions of the display area is designed to be wider than that of them at the central portion of the display area and a brightness distribution through the display panel along a direction passing through the central portion of the display area and perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the fluorescent lamp is in error in the range of ±5% with respect to an approximate quadratic curve of a brightness distribution curve. Thus, sufficiently good display quality can be maintained in an actual display observation while the number of fluorescent lamps is suppressed.
