Monitoring of radioactive components esp. zirconium alloy fuel cans - below water by eddy current probe attached to manipulator arm

A device for monitoring radioactive components, esp. of Zr alloy, is designed for operating in a water-filled cooling pool contg. irradiated fuel elements. A eddy current probe is mounted on a manipulator arm descending into the pool. Adjacent the eddy current probe, a submerged, watertight compensating unit is connected to it, this compensating unit being connected to a cable leading to the indicator equipment above the pool. Pref. the eddy current is attached to the manipulator arm by a removable mounting. A television camera may also be mounted under water on the manipulator arm. Used for the inspection of stored nuclear fuel elements with Zr alloy cans. The entire eddy current probe and compensating unit are all remotely handed below the water, thus providing shielding to the operating personnel.
