[Class 111] In a method of circulating and aerating sewage in a tank for activated sludge treatment, a rapid circulation is obtained by a rotary element having a pouring action in one or more thick streams of large volume and short steep trajectory, the width of which is not more than one third of the distance from the centre of the rotary element to the wall of the tank. The circulation is at the rate of at least one every ten minutes. The apparatus may comprise a rotary cone b<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 2, whose truncated depth measures two or more inches per foot of outside diameter, and in use it is rotated at a slower rate than the conventional type cone. The method may also be effected by a brush type distributor Fig. 6 which is provided with a flow plate h. The brush i is set lower in the liquid and rotated at a slower rate than in normal methods.</p> |
