<p>Provided are: a catalyst for hydrogenolysis of a polyhydric alcohol, which is capable of selectively producing a hydrogenolysis product of a polyhydric alcohol with high yield without using a liquid acid catalyst; and a method for producing 1,3-propane diol, wherein 1,3-propane diol is produced from glycerol using this catalyst. A catalyst for hydrogenolysis of the present invention is obtained by having a boehmite carrier support a platinum component and a tungsten component. It is preferable that the platinum component and the tungsten component are contained at a ratio of from 1:0.05 to 1:50 (platinum component:tungsten component (weight ratio)). It is also preferable that a catalyst for hydrogenolysis of the present invention is obtained by having a boehmite carrier support a platinum component and a tungsten component, and then firing the resulting product at 200-1,000°C for 1-5 hours.</p> |
