The present invention relates to character input technology for providing a word in advance which is predicted to be input. The present invention provides a character input device comprising: a word history management unit for analyzing an input-completed character to generate or manage word history information; a prediction word search unit which confirms, if a text input mode start signal is transmitted, input area attribute information of an input area corresponding to the text input start signal or time information of the start signal and searches for prediction words corresponding to the input area attribute information or the time information based on the words history information; and a display control unit which controls to align and display the prediction words according to a prediction probability calculated for each of the searched prediction words.
