PURPOSE: A portable terminal, a background image setting method, and recording medium thereof are provided to enable a user to convert a video into static image data and to edit the static image data. CONSTITUTION: An image editing unit(1130) receives input from a user for selecting a predetermined area and for using a background image stored in a portable terminal. The image editing unit edits one or more stop image data stored in a frame unit according to a user taste. An input and output unit(1140) outputs the background image on a display unit of the portable terminal. The input and output unit outputs one or more stop image data according to the set output order. A memory(1150) stores the image data and the stop image data.
