A backlight assembly and a display device having the same are provided to dispose a lamp of a light generating unit below edge parts of a second light guide element, thereby reducing size of bezels corresponding to rims of a screen. A backlight assembly includes a container(100), a light generating unit(200) having a lamp(210) and a lamp cover(220), and a light guide element(300). The container has a bottom part(110) and side parts(120) extended from edges of the bottom part to form a receiving space. The light generating unit is mounted in the container. The light guide element is positioned at an upper part of the lamp cover, and in the shape protruded toward the bottom part for receiving light in a direction horizontal to the bottom part, wherein an incident light is guided toward an upper part of the container. |
