<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing sodium chromite in a high yield. <P>SOLUTION: According to this production method, the water content rate of in a mixture of a chromium oxide (Cr<SB POS="POST">2</SB>O<SB POS="POST">3</SB>) powder and a sodium carbonate (Na<SB POS="POST">2</SB>CO<SB POS="POST">3</SB>) powder is made to be ≤1,000 ppm, and the mixture is heated in an inert gas atmosphere at a calcination temperature range (850°C) in which the sodium carbonate and the chromium oxide undergo a calcination reaction.
