<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a recording medium from coming in contact with the ejection surface of a liquid ejection head, in a constitution where the recording medium present in the conveyance path is discharged when power is turned on. <P>SOLUTION: When paper remains in a casing of the apparatus when the power is turned on (S2:YES), it is determined whether paper is positioned in an opposed position facing the ejection surface of the head (S3). When the paper is present in the opposed position (S3:YES), the deformation amount of the paper is estimated (S4). When the deformation amount is large (S5: YES), it is determined that the paper cannot be conveyed, then, a notice (S11) is given to the prompt manual removal of the paper. When the deformation amount is middle (S6: YES), in a state that the head is located in a retreat position (S8), paper discharging processing is performed (S9).
