A temperature probe (Fig. 2) inserted in the wall of a furnace comprises a cylinder 9 having an insulating, heat resistant, disc 1 in which a plurality of thermocouples are held, with their hot junctions near or in that surface, 2, which is exposed to the furnace, and their cold junctions protruding from the other surface 3 of the disc into a boiling liquid contained in the cylinder. The thermocouples are connected in series to give a large output. The boiling liquid, used as a reference temperature, is constantly replenished via a tube 11; and vapour is extracted from outlet 12, condensed and recirculated. |
