PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a carburized steel member by which carburization effect is more easily enhanced locally or fully than heretofore.SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing the carburized steel member includes a carburization step of increasing the carbon concentration in a surface of the steel member by keeping the steel member 8 at a temperature equal to or higher than the austenitizing temperature in a carburization atmosphere, and a hardening step of quenching the steel member 8 after the carburization step so as to be transformed from the austenite to martensite. In the method, before the carburization step, a pretreatment step of coating the surface of the steel member 8 with metal soap containing at least one of Ca and Mg is performed. The pretreatment step is preferably performed by preparing liquid or gel-like metal soap-containing agent 5 containing the metal soap, and coating the surface of the steel member 8 with the metal soap-containing agent 5. |
