PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing succinic acid from glycerol being a carbon source by fermentation using a filamentous fungus under aerobic conditions. SOLUTION: The method for producing succinic acid includes reducing an expression amount of succinate dehydrogenase (SDH) gene by a genetic engineering technique, preparing a filamentous fungus having a modified metabolic pathway and performing fermentation using the filamentous fungus from glycerol as a carbon source under aerobic conditions. A reduction in an expression amount of SDH gene is carried out, for example, by incorporating a DNA sequence for expressing an RNA having a sequence complementary to an mRNA transcribed from an SDH gene.
