<p>A liquid crystal display apparatus (display apparatus) (100) comprises a display panel (20) having a plurality of optical sensor elements and has an area sensor function to detect an externally input position by detecting an image on a surface of the display apparatus by the optical sensor elements. A front side polarizing plate (40a) is provided on the image display surface side of the display panel (20). A ?/2 phase difference plate (50b) and a ?/4 phase difference plate (50a) are superimposed on the front side polarizing plate (40a) in this order and are arranged to have a positional relationship so that the optical axis (slow-phase axis) of the ?/2 phase difference plate (50b) and the optical axis (slow-phase axis) of the ?/4 phase difference plate (50a) intersect each other. The phase difference plate consisting of the ?/2 phase difference plate (50b) and the ?/4 phase difference plate (50a) superimposed thereon is referred to as a broadband ?/4 phase difference plate (50). Thus, a display apparatus which can suppress the reflection of light due to a displayed image and which has an optical sensor capable of detecting an input position with an enhanced precision can be realized.</p>
