<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly accurate position detection apparatus capable of recognizing clear images without contour blur caused by the thickness of point-coating marks when the point-coating marks applied onto a transparent substrate are to be read by light irradiated from below. Ž<P>SOLUTION: An LED illumination 32 (illumination) for irradiating coating marks M on a glass plate 30 (light-transmitting plate) with light from below is provided below the glass plate 30. A liquid crystal plate 31 for adjusting the optical axis of light emitted from the LED illumination 32 is layered on the lower surface of the glass plate 30 in such a way as to be in parallel with the optical axis of a camera 20 for recognition.
