<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the degradation of light output power under a wide range of an environment from low ambient temperature to high ambient temperature. Ž<P>SOLUTION: An electrodeless discharge lamp 1 includes a bulb 2, an envelope 3, and a ferromagnetic material 4. The bulb 2 is made of a light-transmitting material at a hollow airtight state, and a rare gas and mercury are enclosed in the bulb. The envelope 3 is made of a ferromagnetic metal for storing amalgam which supplies the mercury, and a space from a projection section 7b nearest to a ferromagnetic material 4 in a tube-shaped section 7 to a projection section 7c most separated from the ferromagnetic material is movably stored in the axial direction of the tube-shaped section 7. The ferromagnetic material 4 has Curie temperature in the vicinity of the critical temperature wherein the amalgam is changed at phase from a solid phase to a liquid phase, and is stored between the projection section 7a and the projection section 7b where temperature is relatively higher in an outer shell section 5. The envelope 3 moves to the projection section 7b where the temperature is relatively higher when temperature of the ferromagnetic material 4 is lower than the Curie temperature, and moves to a projection section 7c where temperature is relatively low when temperature of the ferromagnetic material 4 is the Curie temperature or above.
