FLUORESCENT LAMP

Provided is a fluorescent lamp, which comprises a discharge space enclosed by glass containing discharge gas, a discharge electrode and a fluorescent element and which contains a mayenite compound in at least a portion of the inner face contacting with the discharge gas.  The fluorescent lamp is excellent in the efficiency of an ultraviolet ray emission from the discharge gas and in discharge characteristics such as a discharge starting voltage or a discharge keeping voltage, chemically stable and excellent in resistances to oxidation and sputtering, and can spare the electric power consumption.
