A honeycomb structure having a columnar honeycomb unit containing zeolite and an inorganic binder, provided with multiple cells extending from a first end face to a second end face along the longitudinal direction thereof partitioned by a cell wall. The honeycomb structure is characterized in that the zeolite is contained in an amount of 230 g/L or more per apparent volume of the honeycomb unit, and that the honeycomb unit has an opening ratio, P of 50 to 65% and a cell density, ? of 31 to 93 cells/cm2, and that the cell wall has a surface roughness, Ra of 1 to 30 µm.
