Disclosed is a compound having excellent melanin production inhibiting activity, which is useful as a skin whitening agent. An external preparation for the skin containing the compound is also disclosed. The skin whitening agent contains a compound represented by general formula (1) or a pharmacologically acceptable salt thereof as an active ingredient. (In the formula, R1, R3, R4 and R6 independently represent a C1-3 alkyl; and R2 and R5 independently represent a hydrogen atom or a C1-3 alkyl.)
